Curriculum Overview

Being a scientist - Intent statement

Science is an important part of our curriculum here at Kirkheaton. It teaches us how to ask questions, predict, use equipment and sources, present, conclude and apply our findings/learning. We learn that it’s important to investigate fairly and reliably, to spot errors in data and to make and rectify mistakes.

At Kirkheaton, we want children to enquire like scientists: to test fairly, seek patterns, identify, classify and group, observe and research using secondary sources. Our units of learning inspire children to think critically and use their scientific understanding and vocabulary.

Science gives children the opportunity to improve their measuring, communication and thinking skills, while creating exciting memories. Children love learning new things in science and being the best scientists that they can be!
